Münsterhof Zürich

The Münsterhof is a historic square located in the heart of Zurich. Prior to 2016, the Münsterhof was primarily utilised as a car park. However, in that year, the square was transformed into a traffic-free zone (Stadt Zürich Präsidialdepartement, 2022). The redesign of the square aimed to turn the Münsterhof into a traffic-calmed, inviting public space that attracts both locals and tourists (Vogt, n.d.). Given its historic character it was important to integrate the square into the surrounding cityscape. The redesign included the laying of new cobblestone paving, the installation of a large fountain, the addition of green spaces, seatings, and bicycle parking spots, as well as the provision of areas for boulevard catering. In addition, a concept for the use of the square for events was developed to position the Münsterhof as a cultural and event venue.
